GM to make "NASCAR-wide" funding cuts

The scalpel of bankruptcy that is slicing off GM's sponsorship activities hasn't touched NASCAR's top tier Sprint Cup series, but the Nationwide and Camping World Truck series' have been trimmed. NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Kevin Harvick have teams running in the lower two series, and have been told by GM that they will lose funding.

Harvick runs three trucks in the Camping World Truck Series and hasn't commented on what GM's move will bring. Earnhardt, with the backing of Hendrick Motorsports, fields two cars in the Nationwide series and a team spokeswoman said "we are fully capable of adjusting our business model to this change" to continue racing.

For now, Chevrolet has no plans to pull out of NASCAR entirely and the Sprint Cup remains immune to the cost cutting. As the red carpet event, everybody knows the fans want to see Chevrolet doing the ovals, and we imagine there will be quite a few other painful measures taken before the Bowtie would bow out of oval racing.

But Monday, the opening day of the NASCAR Sprint media tour hosted by Lowe's Motor Speedway, was when the rechristened organization was presented to the world -- quite clumsily, actually, when Foster Gillett accidently knocked the veil off the sign proclaiming Richard Petty Motorsports. Same colors as the old Petty Enterprises, nearly the same logo, same prominent last name. Just who was buying whom again...lol !!

Tony Stewart’s contract with Joe Gibbs Racing extends through 2009 and the team is one of several in negotiations with Stewart for 2010 and beyond, and what likely will be Stewart’s final contract as a NASCAR driver.
SI.com reported yesterday that Stewart is talking with Haas CNC Racing about becoming a partial owner of that team as well as a driver after Stewart’s deal with JGR expires at the end of 2009. More details are expected from him this weekend, he has said that so far, he has nor asked to be released from his current JGR contact, but reading between the lines you can see his frustration at driving a Toyota as his personal Race Team still owns Chevrolet Cars !!! The losing ways of the 2008 season to date must also be considered a factor in Stewart's future, he wan many races in both Pontiac's & Chevrolet's , his record so far in the Toyota has been awful compared to his GM brand wins !!!

There's widespread speculation that General Motors is trying to lure Stewart from Gibbs, which left GM at the end of last season after 16 seasons with the manufacturer. JGR now fields Toyotas, and the Japanese automaker allowed Stewart to continue his Chevy deals despite the conflict of interest.

GM heavily supports Stewart's many race teams, and Stewart acknowledged in February that the move to Toyota was difficult for him. Haas is a GM team that has a support alliance with Hendrick Motorsports, the leader of the Chevy teams. Stewart said Thursday his relationship with GM is still special, but that he'd built solid ties with Toyota since joining that manufacturer in January.

"It's not that there's anything wrong there," he said. "But I have a lot of strong ties to Chevrolet, obviously."

Bobby Labonte’s Sprint Cup career took another sharp turn Tuesday, with the 2000 Cup Series champion agreeing to drive the No. 96 Fords for Hall of Fame Racing, which has a new association with Yates Racing.

Labonte and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing were working on a deal that would have put Labonte in the No. 8 Chevrolets. The future of that car now is in question.

Labonte was scheduled for a lunch meeting with officials at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing on Tuesday. But shortly before the meeting, informed the organization he had signed with Yates/Hall of Fame, sources said.

WITH OVER 650 WINS, NO OTHER COMPANY HAS A CHANCE IN HELL OF EVEN COMING CLOSE TO GENERAL MOTORS IN NASCAR, SPORTS CAR RACING OR DRAG RACING...CHEVY IS JUST UNBEATABLE. NO DEBATE THERE & IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE YOU ARE LIVING IN A FANTASY WORLD OF YOUR OWN  MAKING WHICH BEARS NO RESPECT TO THE REAL WORLD WHERE CHEVY IS #1 !!! ....IT IS A BOW TIE OR NO TIE WORLD OF RACING !!!


2. DALE JR PUT HIS REPUTATION ON THE LINE IN 2008, & HE FAILED TO DELIVER A CUP TITLE, BUT HE DID WIN A FEW RACES & MADE THE CHASE. IN 2009 HE HAS HIS WORK CUT OUT FOR HIM. HE HAS THE VERY BEST TEAM, CARS & CREW...AND EVEN BETTER TEAM MATES !!!...AND THAT IS GOING TO BE HIS PROBLEM. IN THIS SEASON HE WILL HAVE TO DRIVE BETTER, SMARTER & WIN MANY RACES TO EVEN COMPETE WITH HIS OWN TEAM...NOT TO MENTION HIS PAL, TONY STEWART !!!



3. YES HE WILL. TAKING LEAVE OF JOE GIBBS & TOYOTA WAS THE BEST MOVE TONY COULD HAVE MADE FOR 2009, NOW WITH HIS OWN TEAM & RYAN NEWMAN, BOTH IN CHEVROLETS, ...LOOK OUT, BECAUSE THIS IS THE DYNAMIC DUO FOR 2009 !

4. HONDA HAS THE HERITAGE TO BE IN NASCAR, WHERE TOYOTA IS THE SINGLE MOST DISGUSTING DEVELOPMENT IN NASCAR RACING EVER !! THE "THEFT" OF GM ENGINE TECHNOLOGY WITH THE "PAYOFF" OF JOE GIBBS RACING ALLOWED TOYOTA TO GAIN YEARS OF GM ENGINE DEVELOPMENT & IN OUR OPINION SHOULD BE A CRIMINAL ACTION THAT NASCAR SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED FROM HAPPENING,  OR AT LEAST FINED TOYOTA FOR STEALING GM TECHNOLOGY. THE PRECEDENT IS WELL DEFINED WITH THE F1 CASE OF FERRARI & McLAREN...THIS IS NO DIFFERENT , IT IS A CRIME. HONDA MUST GET INTO NASCAR NOW, EVEN IF IT MEANS THEY SELL OFF THE F1 TEAM WHICH HAS PRODUCED NO REAL RESULTS FOR THEM ANYWAY, BUT TO DEFEND THE HONOR OF HONDA, THEY MUST NOW TAKE ON TOYOTA IN NASCAR OR LOSE FACE....HEY AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT, LET'S OPEN THE DOOR TO NASCAR FOR A FEW MORE DESERVING BRANDS AS WELL ;




5. YES.  NASCAR HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO EXPAND IN THE FACE OFTHE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN AS IT PLANS TO THE WORLD'S LEADING STOCK CAR SERIES AT ALL COSTS. THE RECENT ADDITIONS OF BOTH CANADA & MEXICAN RACING EVENTS & SERIES IS PROOF OF NASCAR'S DIRECTION...TO GO WORLDWIDE. THE MERGER OF THE ROLEX GRAND-AM SERIES INTO NASCAR IS ALSO THE INDICATION THAT "STOCK CARS" ARE NOT THE ONLY WAY NASCAR CAN EXPAND THE FRANSHISE. THEY MAY SURELY HAVE DISORIENTED THE "OLD SCHOOL" NASCAR FANS IN AMERICA & NOW ARE SET ON A COURSE TO DOMINATE THE WORLD STOCK CAR RACING AND SPORTS CARS RACING SERIES. NEXT WILL BE THE V8 SUPERCAR SERIES, GERMAN TOURING SEDAN SERIES (DTS), & THE BRITISH TOURING SERIES (BTS) ...THEY HAVE THE SPONSOR & MEDIA EXPOSURE TO PULL ALL OF THESE SERIES INTO NASCAR, IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME & DOING BUT THEY WILL PULL IT OFF.


6. NOW IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE WORST DRIVER IS, WAS , AND WILL AGAIN BE KYLE "DOG FOOD" BUSH...HE HAS NO IDEA HOW DANGEROUS HIS RACING HAS BECOME AND AFTER HIS CRUSHING DEFEAT IN 2008....HE WILL MOST LIKEY BE EVEN WORSE IN 2009.


OK, KYLE BUSH IS MADE HEADLINES FOR HIS "DRIVING SKILLS" OR IS IT HIS LACK OF SKILL & PURE IGNORANCE OF THE DANGER HE CREATES ?...HERE ARE A FEW OBSERVATIONS FROM NASCAR OPINION MAKERS ;

"There are things Busch should have been taught by his parents long before his considerable talent thrust him into NASCAR. What he got instead was ENABLED, His parents went so far once as to fudge Kyle’s age so he could race a year early; instead of telling him that he has to follow the rules and wait, just like everyone else.

Given examples of entitlement like this through his childhood, not to mention lessons in how NOT to endear oneself to fans courtesy of his older brother Kurt, it at least makes you wonder a little less where he gets his attitude. Surely it’s not up to Busch’s teammates to change that attitude. They say the best way to learn is by example, and if that old adage is true, then Kyle Busch has had the best teachers in the business. Not only is car owner Rick Hendrick one of the most respected persons in the garage, but Busch has had a string of teammates who personify class and a winning attitude-and he hasn’t seemed to absorb any of it. Busch replaced a retiring Terry Labonte in the No. 5 Nextel Cup ride. If a driver was ever a picture of class and good behavior, surely Labonte is that driver. Quiet and humble though twice a champion, Labonte rarely spoke a bad word about anyone-even when he was on the receiving end of the chrome horn. Quiet and understated, Labonte understood the draft and how to use it. What finer lessons could a newcomer have had ?

So don’t tell me Busch hasn’t had a mentor. While he may never have looked past the end of his nose to see the examples that Rick Hendrick and his fellow HMS driver put before him, the examples were always there. Only Busch can say why he hasn’t followed his teammates’ lead. If he learns to curb the attitude and to work within a team structure, Busch has more than enough talent to take him to multiple Cup championships. However, there is more to being a champion than driving fast and having talent in the seat. Busch had three Cup Champions to learn those lessons from in his time at Hendrick Motorsports. NOW, LET HIS RECORD SPEAK FOR ITSELF...AFTER SEVERAL SEASONS IN THE BEST NASCAR TEAM (HENDRICK RACING)....HIS RESULTS ARE NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT AT ALL...IT IS NO WONDER THAT HE WAS "FIRED" IN SPITE OF THE FACT HE HAD MORE YEARS ON THE TEAM THAN CASEY MEARS. THIS NO DOUBT HAS MADE THE CIRCUMSTANCES WORSE, NOW THAT HE WAS HIRED BY TOYOTA TO RACE ON THE JOE GIBBS TEAM WHICH IS THE BIGGEST "SELL OUT" IN NASCAR TODAY FOR GIVING CHEVY ENGINE TECHNOLOGY TO TOYOTA.

THE DRIVING "INTENSITY" KYLE BUSH HAS SHOWN IN 2008, WAS JUST ALARMING. OBVIOUSLY HE FEELS HE HAS SOMETHING TO PROVE, AND THIS IS A VERY BAD MIX. BROTHER KURT HAS SET NO EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW, KNOWN TO BE THE CURSE OF THE RACE TRACK WITH HIS "AGGRESSIVE" STYLE, IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT KYLE SEEMS TO BE GOING DOWN THE SAME PATH WITH CARELESS ACTIONS ON THE TRACK.

OUR PREDICTION ;.....DISASTER. PLAIN & SIMPLE, KYLE BUSH IS SETUP TO CAUSE THE SINGLE MOST UGLY WRECK IN RECENT NASCAR HISTORY. STEER CLEAR OF HIM, THO THAT IS HARD TO DO WHEN HE IS BANGING ON YOUR BACK FENDER OR WEAVING ACROSS THE ENTIRE TRACK TO PREVENT YOU FROM PASSING HIM !!!
....OF COURSE NOW THAT HE HAS WON THE FIRST CUP RACE FOR TOYOTA, COURTESY OF THE LEAD CAR BREAKING...HIS EGO WILL BE WORSE THAN EVER !

THE PROOF IS IN HIS PERFORMANCE, SO FAR THIS YEAR HE HAS CRASHED AWAY AT LEAST 4 0R 5  LEAD LAP FINISHES, FOR "SLAMMING" AWAY ON THE FINAL LAPS !!! YET STILL MANAGED TO WIN A HANDFUL OF EVENTS...AND IN EVERY RACE YOU CAN SEE HIM PUSH SOMEBODY OFF THE TRACK, CAUSE A CRASH OR JUST WHINE WHEN HE DOSE NOT WIN....IF HE MAKES IT TO THE END OF THIS SEASON WITHOUT KILLING HIMSELF OR SOMEBODY, IT WILL MOST LIKELY BE A MINOR MIRACLE !!!

 
NASCAR'S BEST DRIVERS ARE MARK MARTIN, JEFF GORDON, JIMMIE JOHNSON, JEFF BURTON, CARL EDWARDS, GREG BIFFLE, TONY STEWART, KASEY KHANE & DALE JR, WHO WILL ALL HAVE TO DUKE IT OUT IN 2009 TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP OR EVEN A RACE...& BECOME  NASCAR'S TOP DOG !


7. DODGE WHO ?.....!!!!! THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST NEWS OF 2009....ONE OF THE GREATEST NAMES IN NASCAR HISTORY IS ALL BUT GONE FROM NASCAR IN 2009. DUE TO THE ECONOMIC CRASH & THE CRISIS WITH DETROIT AUTO MAKERS IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE JUST GAVE UP ON CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND JUMPED THE DODGE "SHIP" AS FAST AS THEY COULD !...OF COURSE PARTLY BECAUSE THE FACTORY SUPPORT FOR DODGE IS IN QUESTION AS TO WHAT, IF ANY, SUPPORT CAN BE EXPECTED IN 2009. DEPENDING UPON THE FATE OF CHRYSLER, DODGE COULD RETURN FULL FORCE, OR OPEN THE DOOR FOR A NEW AUTO MAKER TO JOIN THE NASCAR RANKS. THE BIG DODGE TEAMS HOWEVER ARE ALL GONE TO CHEVY & FORD FOR 2009, IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN IF DODGE CAN COMPETE IN NASCAR NOW....

Chrysler plans to slash its overall NASCAR budget by more than 30 percent in 2009, Dodge Motorsports director Mike Accavitti.

That reduction is due in part to the team-merger between Dale Earnhardt, Inc. and Chip Ganassi Racing, which removes Ganassi's former three-team Sprint Cup operation from the Dodge fold. (Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing will run Chevrolets.)

But Dodge will also cut back on at-track car displays, track sponsorships and promotions. It will, though, continue to support Penske Racing, Gillet Evernham Motorsports and Petty Enterprises as planned, Accavitti said.

"We'll definitely be on the track in 2009," Accavitti said.
